“Save Mary-Kate” T-shirts, July 2004

The shirts were created by L.A. design duo Randy Bol and Melissa Moss after Mary-Kate’s admittance to a rehab facility for an alleged eating disorder. "One night we were working on designs and reading magazines that featured Mary-Kate’s eating disorder,” said Moss at the time. After finding success with the tees on CafePress.com, Bol and Moss moved shop to their own website, SaveMaryKate.blogspot.com - its motto: “Together we can do this. One T-shirt at a time.”

The success would be short lived, however. Initially intending to donate proceeds from the shirts to the National Eating Disorders Association, the organization rejected Bol and Moss’ offer. Commented a rep for Mary-Kate, “I’m not sure what Mary-Kate needs saving from.” Shortly thereafter, the designers were met with a cease and desist by the twins’ company, Dualstar Entertainment, and their website vanished soon after.
