Re: Today’s Kim Kardashian news cycle, just because something good came out of a situation doesn’t mean you need to praise or give credit to the players involved. You can be happy for Alice Marie Johnson without having to praise Kim or Donald, as no matter how much you want believe Kim’s heart might be in the right place, this is still part of a coordinated PR effort - one that’s also been benefitting Trump. (Quite a few people are now praising Trump for doing what Obama didn’t, as Obama denied clemency for Johnson three times.) Kim spent less than an hour at the White House lobbying her case to Trump before departing for a private dinner at Jared and Ivanka’s home. (My longtime readers know Kim & Ivanka’s friendship spans back over a decade to their Hilton-Richie-Johnson-Stewart-Phillips party girl days of the aughts.) And during Kim’s visit to the Oval Office, Trump reportedly told her that both she and Kanye were “boosting his popularity” with black voters.  Just yesterday, TMZ asked Bobby Kennedy’s daughter for her thoughts on the Kardashians “wading into politics” - closing the piece with: “Even RFK’s daughter acknowledges the Kardashians seem to have their hearts in the right place, and thanked them for getting involved.

So, yes, be glad for Alice Marie Johnson, but you’re not a downer or a cynic for believing that the long con Kim & co. are playing isn’t for the greater good, even if a single news cycle might seem to blur that.
