Remember to vote for Mischa tonight on Dancing With The Stars!: http://vote-e.abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-the-stars/vote/season-22
Every vote helps her stay on the show longer, and the longer she stays on the show means she has a better chance of being able to make her car payments and save her house from foreclosure!
Hilary Duff and Joel Madden out in Los Angeles, April 2005
aspirational
We all remember Juicy Tracksuits and Von Dutch, but what other trends and accessories were hot in the ‘00s?
When I was making the list I tried my best to avoid anything too obvious, or the Buzzfeed approach of searching “2000s Fashion” on Google Images and throwing together a list of 20 pictures, so let’s look back at some of the trends and items that you either loved - or loved to hate.
Alexander McQueen Skull Scarves
Like many of the hottest trends, the origin of the McQueen Skull Scarf can be traced to Kate Moss, who wore one at a charity event in 2004.
Not long afterwards, everybody in Hollywood snatched up their own. And when I say everybody, I literally mean everybody: Carmen Electra, Johnny Depp, Sienna Miller, The Hiltons, The Simpsons - even the girls over at MTV & VH1!
It was such a hot item, that Jay-Z and Beyonce were both spotted wearing one.
And Lindsay Lohan had one in three colors!
Cowboy Boots
2005 was all about two things: weighing 90 lbs. and cowboy boots. Nearly every Hollywood it-girl could be spotted stomping around The Ivy in a pair - the Skeletwins, Sienna Miller, and Kate Bosworth are a few names that come to mind.
Hippie Headbands
Near the end of the decade, this '60s-inspired accessory became trendy when starlets like Mischa Barton and Ashlee Simpson were spotted wearing them - they were so hot, actually, that Mischa started her own line in 2008.
A few months later, another it-girl cashed in on the trend - Miss Nicole Richie:
Star reported that Coop was furious with her ex-BFF’s new House of Harlow headband line, but I guess we all know who won that battle in the long run (Hint: The one that isn’t currently on Dancing With The Stars).
Handcuff Necklaces
It shouldn’t be surprising that a trend involving handcuffs was started by Lindsay Lohan, but other stars who’ve sported this accessory include Xtina and Courteney Cox.
Balenciaga Motorcycle Bag
The Motorcycle bag was a favorite amongst the it-girls from 2005 - 2007. Nicole Richie had the bag in multiple colors - and Mary-Kate Olsen still wears hers to this day!
Fendi Spy Bag
Whether you acknowledged it or not, you’ve probably seen one of your favorite celebrities wear this bag. It was one of the hottest bags of 2005 - 2007, with everybody from Jennifer Lopez to Hilary Duff cherishing it dearly.
Junk Food Shirts
Junk Food’s Little Miss and Mr. Men’s shirts skyrocketed in popularity in 2006 after the Britney/Lindsay/Paris trio was spotted wearing them. I vividly remember my little sister having, like, 20 of these when she was in elementary school. Other celebs who’ve sported these tees include Hayden Panettiere and Emily Osment, and of course Mimi snatched up the holiday one:
Herve Leger Bandage Dresses
From 2007 to 2009, bandage dresses wreaked total havoc on Hollywood. You couldn’t look at any star without seeing one of those ugly things. Every red carpet, club opening, press conference, and drunken stumble out of Koi had Herve Leger’s horrifying creation near, but thankfully it wasn’t long until people got sick of them. As someone who is nostalgic for most things '00s, this is one trend that is better off in the past.
And for the few that still wear these, you’re in my prayers.
Faith Connexion Hats
These spiritual caps were first seen on Lindsay Lohan, who proudly sported them throughout her multiple rehab stints in 2007. Stars like Baby V, Ashley Tisdale, Usher, and Madonna hopped on the trend not long after.
Political Tees
Before the age of social media, celebrities couldn’t express their political opinions through poorly worded tweets, so they took to colorful T-shirts to express which candidate they were backing, or to try and enlist the youth of America to vote too!
Kabbalah Bracelets
The origin of the Kabbalah trend can be traced to Madonna, who started sporting the classic red string on her wrist in the early '00s. She quickly enlisted celeb pals like Britney Spears, Ashton Kutcher, Lindsay Lohan, and Paris Hilton to join the faith, but most of them didn’t stick with it for too long.
DCMA Collective
DCMA was a clothing line established by the Madden Bros. in 2006, and this song is the reason I’ll never forget it:
Celebrity shoppers included Nicole Richie, Benji’s former girlfriend Paris Hilton, Nicky Hilton, Audrina Patridge, and Carey Hart. The LA flagship store closed in 2011, but the brothers have since maintained that they aren’t shutting down the company.
Burberry Scarves
The Burberry Scarf took Hollywood by storm around 2003 and could be spotted on everybody from Blake Lively to Amanda Bynes. While it hit its peak in the mid-to-late '00s, celebrities like Spooky Waterhouse and Naomi Campbell still proudly wear theirs.
Jesus Is My Homeboy Shirts
These shirts became a hot item in the early '00s after they started being sold at the trendy Teenage Millionaire on Melrose. Everybody from Ben Affleck to Pamela Anderson was spotted wearing one, and in recent years I think I saw Lily Allen wear one on Instagram.
Chloe Paddington Bag
The Chloe Paddington was first introduced in 2005 and became a fast favorite of the always stylish Mischa Barton. It remained a hot item for several years afterwards and has been spotted on the arms of stars like Kate Bosworth, Paris Hilton, and Halle Berry.
Chanel Half-Tint Sunglasses
These shades were frequently worn by the Olsen Twins and Nicole Richie in 2008 and 2009, and they were effective in making them look more drugged up than they already were.
Pharrell was a fan too!
Waist Belts
Probably the biggest fan of the waist belt trend was Paris Hilton. Take a peek at any picture of her from 2006 and you’ll see her proudly wearing one. Other celebrity fans included Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, and the Olsen Twins.
Paris was even wearing one when she got arrested!
Louis Vuitton Multicolor Murakami
This is easily one of the most iconic fashion trends of the 2000s. Literally everybody had one of these. Jessica Simpson loved hers so much that on Newlyweds she called it her baby! Unfortunately the design was discontinued in 2015 after a 12-year run.
Messages To The Paparazzi
Like political tees, before social media arrived the most publicity hungry stars used T-shirts to express their feelings on the media. Paris and Lindsay both rocked Miss Me’s Don’t Follow Me sweatjacket in 2007, and Heidi and Eva Longoria both were photographed wearing Privacywear’s I Want More Privacy tee in 2008.
Oh, and Stacie the Bartender too.
Dooney & Bourke
While Dooney & Bourke had already existed for quite some time, they didn’t hit their stride until they decided to cash in on the popularity of LV’s Multicolor Murakami. In 2004 and 2005 they released their own line of very colorful (and clearly inspired) bags and accessories with starlets like Lilo, Mischa, and Michelle Trachtenberg as their models. In 2006, Emma Roberts had the ’Emma Bag’ named after her:
And in 2007 and 2008, Hayden Panettiere designed a line for the company including the ’Hayden Bag’ and the ’Chiara’.
7 Jeans, True Religion, Frankie B, & Apple Bottoms
Designer jeans were all the rage in the '00s, with brands like 7 For All Mankind, True Religion, and Frankie B reigning supreme thanks to a great deal celebrity shoppers.
Another popular brand was Apple Bottoms, launched in 2003 by Nelly who searched for the perfect model with VH1’s The Search For Miss Applebottom.
While Apple Bottom Jeans are forever immortalized in Flo Rida’s Low, the brand’s last ad campaign was in 2010.
Baby Phat
While you either loved or hated the clothes, there’s one thing you couldn’t deny - the shows were a spectacle. Everybody from Lil’ Kim to Britney could be spotted sitting front row as Kimora Lee Simmons unleashed her latest designs. Sadly, in 2010 Kimora Lee announced she had split with the company, and it wasn’t on good terms.
No Underwear
Forget something to wear, Fall/Winter 2006 was all about what you didn’t wear! It wasn’t rare to see Britney and Lindsay skipping panties as they made their drunken exits from Les Deux and Hyde.
Thanks for reading, hope you guys enjoyed the post!

~AMANDA NEWS~
- I spotted this article in In Touch back in December:
- E! News reported in December that Amanda’s been in a better place as of late:
A new report claims the 29-year-old “seems like she’s in a much better place” after years of personal struggles, family feuds and medical woes. The former child star is currently enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in LA, where she “keeps to herself,” a source tells E! News. “She seems really healthy and focused on her schooling. She seems like she’s in a much better place and she looks great,” the source adds. “No one really treats her any differently because she’s Amanda Bynes. You can tell she really just wants to be a normal student. Everyone at FIDM is really chill and respects her and her space.”
- Ok! reported last week that Amanda’s looking for love:
“It’s still one step at a time for Amanda in many and she’s been extremely hesitant about dating because she’s had such heartbreak in the past,” a source told OK! magazine. “But she’s now reached the point where she finally feels secure in herself and her friendships.” “She’s the Man” star Amanda is also said to have told friends that finding someone to start a relationship with will mark the final stage in her recovery process. “Getting back onto the dating scene without any dramas would spell the full turnaround in her road to mental recovery,” the insider added. Despite her positive outlook on life, her close friends and family are reportedly nervous that a romance could have more of a negative effect on Amanda.
- And the other day TMZ reported that Amanda wasn’t invited to the upcoming All That reunion:
Amanda Bynes won’t be part of Nickelodeon’s “All That” reunion – she wasn’t even invited. Sources close to Bynes tell us she found out about the reunion when a trailer was released online … she never got a heads up from producers. Bynes got her start on the ‘90s sketch comedy series, and went on to star in her own Nickelodeon show, “The Amanda Show,” a few years later. Amanda tells friends she would’ve declined the offer anyway, because her focus these days is fashion, not acting. As we reported, the “All That” reunion won’t feature new material. Instead it will be a lot of reminiscing with “All That” alums Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Danny Tamberelli, Lori Beth Denberg and Josh Server.
Um, that’s rude? She was my favorite part of the show!
And that’s everything! Thanks for reading and hopefully 2016 is a great year for Amanda!
On This Day In 2006 Britney Spears appeared on the “Buy, Buy Baby” episode of Will & Grace. A month before the episode aired, Britney’s cameo caused controversy after reports claimed the episode would include a scene in which Britney hosted a Christian cooking segment called “Cruci-fixins”, which was met with protest from Christian groups. The network fired back claiming the scene never existed, but other reports claimed it did and that NBC scrapped it.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell was arrested for hitting her housekeeper with a crystal-encrusted Blackberry.
The altercation happened earlier that morning when Naomi was preparing for a taping of The Oprah Winfrey Show at her Park Avenue apartment. As she was getting ready, she couldn’t find a $200 pair of Chip & Pepper jeans that she wanted to wear and asked her housekeeper Ana Scolavino where they were. Ana didn’t know, causing Naomi to scream that she was a “fucking bitch” and then hurled the phone at Ana’s head.
Naomi reportedly told her staff to tell the cops that Ana had hurt herself falling, but at Lenox Hill Hospital Ana told cops that Naomi had hit her. When officers arrived at Naomi’s apartment, she told them that she had no idea what they were talking about and showed them a flip-phone as “proof” that Ana’s story wasn’t true.
Naomi was taken to the Midtown North Precinct where she was questioned for hours, and hid her handcuffs under a poncho. She later told the press that Ana was trying to “extort” her. Ana fired back saying that wasn’t true, and that she had no idea of Naomi’s abusive past until the building doorman warned her one day to be “very careful.” Naomi was charged with felony second-degree assault.
The following January she pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, but maintained that the incident was an “accident.” She was sentenced to anger management classes, community service, and to pay Ana’s hospital bills.
As for the Blackberry, it was never recovered - and in a 2010 Oprah interview, Naomi claimed it was never even crystal-encrusted. Chip & Pepper, however, caught wind of Naomi’s attack and dedicated a shirt to her:
